The Reader

There's a reader in the Central Library who's been at the same table for longer than anyone currently working there can account for. Nobody's quite sure when the habit started. Staff change, the building changes, the books on that shelf get reissued and replaced — the reader doesn't. Whatever it is, it seems content with a library that always has something left to finish.

Those who keep one say it settles best somewhere with reading still to do. It seems to like the company of a book it hasn't got to yet.
